SPOJENO PŘES CVE Popcorn Time’s forgotten updater left millions of devices exposed to hijacking

You may have forgotten about Popcorn Time. Unfortunately, its updater didn’t forget about your device. Security researchers have intervened to disable an abandoned update mechanism in Time4Popcorn, a version of the once-popular streaming app. If left running in the background, the updater could have allowed attackers to take control of Windows and Mac computers, even if their owners hadn’t opened the app in years. Eye Security estimates that the vulnerable updater was present on millions of…

Deploying AI agents securely: how Kaspersky products mitigate AI threats

Introduction AI agents and associated tooling are becoming increasingly common in corporate infrastructure. Agents can perform a range of actions with the user’s privileges, such as accessing data, running commands, and interacting with external services. This creates new security risks, especially when these tools are used without the security team’s oversight or well-designed policies. Detecting, tracking, and controlling AI agents is becoming one of the most pressing tasks for security teams…

Looking for a Language [Guest Diary], (Wed, Oct 21st)

[This is a Guest Diary by Jeffray Spence, an ISC intern as part of the SANS.edu BACS program] Around Here, we start our day with coffee, but our day does not begin until we have our data...So much data. Where to even begin? When approaching a massive dataset, such as those from a DShield SIEM Honeypot, the first step is to actually find something to analyze. As for myself, I usually go looking for something that makes me go; "Huh." Today we will be walking through a starting approach with…

Unpatched Tailscale SSH Flaws Could Let a Hacked Device Reach Root on Other Servers

Classification: Important, Solution: Workaround, Exploit Maturity: Proof-of-Concept, CVSSv3.1: None, CVEs: , Summary: A single hacked device on a Tailscale network can be used to gain root access to other servers it can reach, according to a security researcher who published the findings this week. Kernel eviction notice: What wesp.sys reveals about the Windows Endpoint Security Platform

Microsoft is building a way for EDR products to run outside the Windows kernel. It is called the Windows Endpoint Security Platform, and two of its binaries already ship in Windows Insider build. One is the kernel driver wesp.sys, the other the user-mode API espclient.dll. Microsoft wants one kernel driver it maintains itself, in place of the one every security vendor currently ships, after the July 2024 CrowdStrike update crashed 8.5 million machines. WESP is undocumented, but the binaries…

Parasitizing trust: How legitimate infrastructure becomes a delivery pipeline for attackers

Legitimate infrastructure has become a powerful delivery mechanism for attackers, carrying the inherent trust they once had to build.
